| This sample was taken a short distance downstream from where we perform chemical tests each month on the quality of the water. We intend to carry out biological tests at this site on a regular basis to monitor the long term effects that water quality has on invertebrate life in the stream. See the latest water quality test results for this location... February 2010A slightly better result than October 2008, but apart from shrimps and midge larvae abundance was low. Many of the shrimps were parasitized by the spiny headed worm Echinorrhyncus polymorphus.
This stream runs through the centre of Haywards Heath, where it is apparent that some people use it as a convenient rubbish tip. The in stream debris, lack of vegetation and ubiquitous rust coloured sediment gave the impression of a sterile environment. We were therefore surprised at this result, which although not good, was better than expected. |
