This sample was taken a short distance downstream from where we perform chemical tests each month on the quality of the water. We intend to carry out biological tests at this site on a regular basis to monitor the long term effects that water quality has on invertebrate life in the stream.

April 2010
This may be a slightly underestimated score, as there were 2 water beetle larvae and one adult that we were unable to identify. We have preserved the specimens and will consult an expert in due course. A notable feature of this sample was the abundance and species variety of Limnephilidae.

October 2008
This is the first invertebrate monitoring exercise undertaken at this site. We were unsurprised by the low BMWP score in this featureless and apparently straightened section of the stream, about 10m downstream from our chemical sampling point. However, The presence of high scoring cased caddis species would suggest reasonable water quality has pertained for some time.
